Mistletoe: Kiss or Kiss of Death

Important Facts You Need to Know:
- Mistletoe is a parasitic plant.
- As a parasitic plant, mistletoes obtain water, mineral nutrients and organic compounds through their hosts’ xylem sap.
- Mistletoes are photosynthetic; so they grow well in crowns of large trees.
- Numbers increase after initial female produces fruit.
- Can be spread by birds. (Birds feed on berries and deposit seeds elsewhere.)
- Mistletoes spread faster in stressed trees; especially urban stressed trees.
- Trees with multiple mistletoe plants will start to decline and show loss of vigor.
- Major infestations will cause the death of the host.
- There are NO proven “chemicals” or “solvents” to kill mistletoe without harming the host.
- We DO offer treatments to slow down growth and for removal of mistletoe plants.
